A companion pattern to the Bletchley Blouse, the Home Front Shirtwaist bodice expands on the same single-size pattern I previously released in 2022. The updated and redrafted pattern features late 1930s / early 1940s styling with waistline gathers for a softly bloused effect.
The pattern comes with strong puff sleeves in both short and long bishop options, and is also compatible with the sleeve from the Bletchley Blouse, which has a less pronounced puff (I used this sleeve for the parasols version on the cover).
The shirtwaist style is a versatile staple, suitable for all seasons - make it in lightweight cottons and rayons for spring and summer; or in needlecord or wool flannel for autumn/winter wear.
Make it with a swing skirt (try the Daytripper or Sightseeing skirt) for a 1940s look; add shorts for a cute playsuit; or pair it with the Going Places skirt for a fabulous fifties vibe. Patrons at Aficionado tier, look out for the Home Front Skirt, a ration-book-friendly 6-gore skirt with a slim A-line silhouette.
For an alternative take on this versatile pattern, add a waistband for a chic overblouse or light jacket (please note you will need to allow extra fabric for the waistband if you plan to make this option).
