New fabric design: St Tropez

IMG_5160.JPG

I’m pleased to reveal one of my newest fabric designs, and my entry to the current “Bird’s Eye View” Spoonflower Weekly Design Challenge. I’ve named it St. Tropez, and it’s available now in my Spoonflower shop.

I often get asked about the inspiration behind my fabric designs. It varies from one design to the next - in this case, the inspiration came indirectly from a print that I reproduced some years back, based on a feature in a Woman’s Own magazine from 1950 - I named my version “Poolside”. I like to create ‘collections’ of complementary fabric patterns, and one of the ideas that I’ve had at the back of my mind as a coordinate for the Poolside print was a bird’s eye view of ladies sunbathing on the beach. To create the design, I referred to vintage photographs, 1950s swimwear adverts and other vintage fabrics, and built up the design bit by bit, echoing the style and elements from the Poolside print (the eagle-eyed amongst you will spot that the hats in both designs match!)

I named the reproduction “Poolside” and it’s available in various colourways in my Spoonflower shop.
