To accompany this month's Patreon project, the Going Places Skirt, I've released a series of border prints on Spoonflower. The prints are designed to print along both edges of Spoonflower's 56" width cotton sateen, and the skirt pattern is 26" long (plus hem), designed to fit on half the width of the sateen.
Butterfly Border
This design is based on a skirt famously photographed by Louise Dahl-Wolfe and featured in Harper’s Bazaar. I reproduced the print based off the photograph, which meant trying to piece together the design as accurately as I could from what was visible in the picture; I had to ad lib a couple of details, but I’m pleased with the final result, which I think captures the look and feel of the original. The skirt in the photograph had a sky blue background, so I developed a selection of pastel colourways inspired by that.
After finishing my version, I discovered a dress in the same print in a different colourway on Etsy, so I decided to include that colourway in the collection (Brights). Finally, I added a version in Forest, Spearmint, Rosé & Bronze, to coordinate with my Butterfly Mail design collection.
Rococo Plates Border Print
I created this border print as a companion to my Rococo Porcelain print, which was based on a vintage novelty print apron in my collection. Ornate plates are interspersed with floral sprays, along the lower edge with flowers and bows scattered through the body. Available in three Rococo-inspired colourways: Blossom, Seafoam, and Ultramarine.
Fancy Fans Border
The latest addition to the ever-popular "Fancy and Fine" collection, this border print draws inspiration from several vintage sources, from handkerchiefs to feedsack prints. Detailed fans and floral bouquets dance along the border of this elegant, romantic design, with florals scattered through the body.
Available in four colourways: Blossom, Forest, Navy, and Ruby.
